Semi-Inground Pool Installation in New Jersey

The elevated, built-in look of an inground pool — faster to install, built for NJ winters, and designed to pair beautifully with a deck or patio.

The Built-In Look, Without the Full Excavation

A semi-inground pool sits partially below grade and partially above — giving you the raised, built-in aesthetic of a fully inground pool without the cost and time of a complete excavation. The elevated frame creates a natural platform for a wraparound deck or paver surround, making it one of the most visually striking builds we do.

Dr. Zee uses extruded aluminum frames — not steel — for all semi-inground installations. Aluminum doesn't rust, doesn't corrode, and handles NJ's freeze-thaw cycles without degrading over time. It's the right material for this climate, and it's why our semi-inground pools look and perform as well a decade later as they do on day one.

Semi-inground pools are especially well-suited to sloped or uneven yards. Because the frame can be built up on one side to match the grade, we can create a level pool on properties where a fully inground build would require significantly more excavation and retaining wall work.

Everything we build is done entirely in-house — no subcontractors, ever. We handle site prep, frame installation, liner, plumbing, equipment, and finishing as one coordinated process. We also manage NJ permitting on your behalf from start to finish.

What Sets Our Semi-Inground Builds Apart

Ideal for Sloped Yards

We build up the frame on the lower side to create a perfectly level pool on properties where a fully inground build would require significant extra grading or excavation.

Extruded Aluminum, Not Steel

Aluminum doesn't rust or corrode — critical in NJ's climate. Our frames handle freeze-thaw cycles year after year without structural compromise.

Natural Deck Integration

The elevated frame is built to pair with a deck or paver surround. Most clients combine pool and hardscaping into one seamless backyard transformation.

Faster Than Inground

Most semi-inground pools install in 1–2 days once permits are approved. Less excavation means less disruption and a faster path to your first swim.

From First Call to First Swim

01

Consultation & Site Assessment

We visit your yard, walk the grade and dimensions, and discuss your goals. Sloped properties get special attention to plan the right elevation and deck integration.

02

Design & Permitting

We finalize the layout and handle all NJ permit applications. Semi-inground permits are typically processed faster than full inground permits in most municipalities.

03

Frame & Liner Installation

Our crew installs the aluminum frame, levels the pool, and fits the custom vinyl liner. Equipment is set up and tested the same day — most installs complete in 1–2 days.

04

Deck & Finishing

If you're adding a paver patio or deck surround, we build that as part of the same project. See our hardscaping page for options. Final walkthrough before we leave.

Everything You're Wondering About

How is a semi-inground pool different from a fully inground?
A fully inground pool is buried completely below grade — no visible structure, maximum design flexibility, highest cost and construction time. A semi-inground sits partially above ground with an elevated aluminum frame — similar aesthetic when paired with a deck, but faster to build and typically less expensive. We'll help you compare at your consultation.
Why aluminum frames instead of steel?
Aluminum doesn't rust or corrode — critical for a pool that goes through NJ freeze-thaw cycles every winter. Steel frames can degrade over time where water contacts the structure. We use extruded aluminum exclusively for long-term performance.
Can a semi-inground pool work on a sloped yard?
Yes — it's actually one of the best applications for a semi-inground. We build up the frame on the lower side of the slope to create a level pool, which often produces a beautiful elevated effect with natural deck integration. A fully inground pool on the same slope would require significantly more excavation and likely retaining wall work.
How long does semi-inground installation take?
Once permits are in hand, most semi-inground pools are installed in 1–2 days. This is one of the biggest advantages over a fully inground build, which involves 2–4 weeks of active construction.
Do you handle NJ permits for semi-inground pools?
Yes. Most NJ municipalities require permits for semi-inground pools. We manage the full application process the same way we do for inground and above ground builds.
Can I add a deck or patio around the pool?
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. The elevated frame is built for deck integration, and combining pool and hardscaping into one project produces the best result. Visit our hardscaping page to see what's possible.
